If we count the most important assets of the planet we live on, the trees will surely come to our minds first. Trees that feeds the World, give its breath, and demand nothing in return... In this article, we will talk about oak, one of the most powerful trees, which is widely used in parquets.
Preserving its leaves in every season, oak has about 400 species. There are 18 species spread all over Turkey. The motherland of oak extends from Greece to Pakistan and proceeds along a line covering; Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Afghanistan. But there is no specific breeding area.
In Turkey, there is an oak tree estimated to be 500 years old. This tree, called the Mighty Oak, is located in Çankırı and was registered and protected in 2006.
The fruit of the oak tree is called acorn and its seeds are called pelit. Pelit is a chesnut-like food in the acorn. The peel of oak tree, a home favorite for birds and rodents, is very nutricious when used in some ways.
Areas of use:
- Wood made from oak, is a very durablematerial. In the manufacture of parquet and household goods, are often used.
- While acorn is used in the production of paint, pelit is used as animal feed.
- The oak tree burns quite well, so it is widely used as firewood.
- Due to its durability, the oak tree timber is preferred on piers, bridges an deven ships.
- Hard oak types can be used on stairs, doors and windows.
- Tea can be produced from oak tree peels.
- Oak tree is used in a variety of parfumes that contains wood scents.
